U.S. Coast Guard Reports Progress on Oil Spill Clean-Up

The spill was reported near one of two drilling platforms over 2 miles from shore.

The U.S. Coast Guard reported that there was no apparent oil sheen on the ocean’s surface after flying over the coast of Huntington Beach, California, on Sunday as crews continued to clean up an oil spill reported on Friday.

“Shoreline cleanup teams continue to observe tar balls along the beaches in Huntington Beach and will continue to remove them as needed,” the service said, adding about 800 pounds of oily waste and tar balls washed up on the coastline had been removed.

The oil spill was spotted 2.8 miles off the coast near two drilling platforms owned by Amplify Energy Corp, which filed a report documenting its discovery. The Coast Guard has launched an investigation to discover the source of the spill.
